The President of Pride, Will Priest, will say a few words.

We are assured a warm welcome fuelled by conviviality and a glass of wine or two. Please note that there will not be a cash bar at the venue and all drinks will have to be preordered and paid for in advance. I am planning for enough to go around.

Join us on Thursday 26th October at 5:30pm (Please note the timing) for an exceptional and vibrant networking evening at the top of that architectural marvel in central London. There are terraces outside for those of you who still smoke, you can only take plastic cups there though.

The venues get considerable publicity to our Network and we support venues owned and managed by LGBT people whenever possible.

Doctoral Research exploring gay men's experiences of difficulties in the relationship with their therapist/counsellor.

Participants wanted - research project exploring gay men’s experiences of difficulties in the relationship with their therapist/counsellor

Are you a gay man over 18?

Have you been in counselling or psychotherapy that lasted more than 20 sessions?

Would you be willing to share your experiences of therapy with me as part of my Doctoral research? In particular, I want to hear about your experiences of any of the following:

Difficulties, tensions or misunderstandings in the relationship with your therapist

Negative feelings towards your therapist

Any barriers or issues you felt you couldn't talk about that negatively affected the quality of the relationship

Any breakdowns in the relationship with your therapist

Ending therapy abruptly or feeling dissatisfied

My name is Phil Brooke and this research project forms part of my studies towards a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at London Metropolitan University. My study will look at how gay men have experienced ruptures (difficulties or tensions) in the relationship with their therapist - these difficulties could have been subtle which you kept to yourself, or more obvious ones that were discussed with your therapist. I’m hoping this research will offer a deeper understanding of negative therapy experiences for gay men so that therapists are better informed about these sensitive issues.

You taking part in my research would mean having a conversation with me for about an hour where I would ask you to share your experiences with me. Your confidentiality will be protected at all times. This research project has been given ethical approval by London Metropolitan University.

Thank you for coming on the 17th

Thank you for coming on the 17th and making the event enjoyable for everyone. Although we had much food for thoughts it was certainly useful and thoughts provoking!

The Network is open to all and is a really good way to meet people for business or social reason and I will incite you to keep in touch and nurture the contacts you make as you never know when they might come useful.

I was invited yesterday to City Hall to discuss with members of the LGBT Consortium to discuss the Mayor's Diversity and Inclusion Vision, to my surprise, I was the only person representing Gay Professionals and Businesses. The discussion was focused on six areas: London being a great place to live, to grow up, to work and do business, getting around (transport), a healthy, green, safe and enjoyable City and leading by example. Those were discussed as were there the right priorities, what evidence of inequalities do you or your organisation have that could be included in the evidence base, what are the most effective actions GLA could take on the priorities, what best preactice already exists in those areas that GLA can learn from, could we work together on these and how could they do this?

I made a point amongst others that education should be improved so that sex education and orientation were discussed in school and safety for all by more officers on the beat and within communities (I can't remember when I last seen a police officer walking in the street). I off course mentioned www.GBA.org.uk and www.myGwork.com as LGBT Chamber of Commerce and LGBT recruitment respectively. It was good to see many young people from http://mosaicyouth.org.uk/ as essentially any implementation and changes will benefit them.

The Gay Professional Network is your platform to promote your cause, your business, venue and yourself. It helps your further your business or career and makes meaningful business and social contacts. You get connected, proactive and productive.

It is also a get together of like minded people who enjoy meeting other people. All very nice people in a relaxed atmosphere.

Black History Month: Call for speakers

Dear Gay Professional Network

My name is Esohe Uwadiae and I am the Education Officer for LSE Students’ Union. I am currently organising the SU’s Black History Month and hope to run an event on queerness and blackness. This is a topic I am really keen to promote dialogue on. The event itself will last around 2 hours 30 minutes. The first hour will involve four speakers each giving a 10-15 minute presentation on an element of this topic (for the speaker to decide). The second hour will be more interactive and involve the speakers answering questions from the audience. There will then be time after the event for speakers and event attendees to speak on a one to one basis while enjoying some snacks.

I was wondering if you knew of any speakers who would be interested in taking part. Provisionally, the event will happen on October 12^thand begin at 5.30pm.
